Linda Surgenor
Linda Beck Surgenor, 73, of Mercer and formerly of Slippery Rock, passed away at her residence on Monday, April 12, 2021.
She was born in Dunkirk, N.Y. on June 12, 1947, to Robert Ivan Beck and Catherine Thurn Beck. She graduated from Fredonia High School in New York and later Allegheny College.
Linda spent a great part of her career as a camp administrator at Camp Crestfield in Slippery Rock. She was active with the Slippery Rock community and schools and served as an instructor for various community swim and recreation programs. She loved to run and swim. She concluded her career working for the federal government with the Office of Personnel Management, Retirement Operations Center.
Linda was an animal lover throughout her life, including her dog, Jack, and cat, Butterscotch. She also enjoyed visits from her grandchildren, playing boccie and bridge, and being near the water at Lake Latonka. She volunteered with Lake Latonka’s Garden Club and had a passion for gardening. She also made many friends in the AA community and volunteered with the AA program at the local prison. Linda was a former member of Center Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock, where she had served as an elder. She had a passion for the outdoors, nature and conservation and was a member of the Audubon Society.
Survivors include three daughters, Rebecca A. (Brian) Gellner of New Castle; twin daughters, Sara B. (Mark) Arblaster of New Wilmington; Jennifer L. Surgenor of Wiscasset, Maine; her father, Robert I. Beck of Dunkirk, N.Y.; two sisters, Barbara (Jeff) Buchholz of North East, Pa.; Susie (Ed) Walczak of Salisbury, Md.; stepsister, Meredith (Sam) Patton of Ripley, N.Y.; nephew, Bob Walczak of Salisbury, Md.; and three grandchildren, Emily and Seth Arblaster and Katelyn Gellner.
She is preceded in death by her mother; stepmother, Ann Beck; and stepbrother, Matthew Vere.
Surgenor — The family plans to have a private service and schedule a Celebration of Life later for Linda Beck Surgenor, who died Monday, April 12, 2021.
Arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home of Slippery Rock.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the National Audubon Society or Grove City Area Meals on Wheels.
