2 vie for city council seat
UPDATE: Voters may chose two candidates for the position of Butler City Council.
Days before the primary election, another candidate has entered the race for Butler City Council.
Sheri Hershberger announced Friday her run for city council as a Democratic write-in candidate.
She joins Larry Christy, retired fire chief and fire marshal, whose name is on the ballot.
Christy, who has lived in the city since 1974, served three terms on the city planning and zoning committee and is a consultant on financial recovery plans for municipalities.
He said he would like to see “more open conversation with the citizens of Butler” about city plans. He supports continued revitalization of city parks and wants more enforcement of street repairs after utility work is completed.
Hershberger, who has lived in the city since 1993, has served on committees of the Butler AM Rotary, Butler Fall Festival and Armstrong County Habitat for Humanity, among other organizations, and said she has “the support of other local Democratic candidates” and the county Democratic committee.
The write-in candidate said she will listen to the needs of city residents and “make joint decisions with other council members based on those needs.”
