Police call alleged assault of woman a 'barbaric beating'
A woman was left with multiple bruises on her face, scratches all over her body and a bloody nose in what police described as a “barbaric beating” at the Days Inn on Route 8.
Butler Township police responded to a call May 4, during which they found an injured woman sitting in the lobby.
The woman's boyfriend, Isaac Luis Stevenson of Butler, was charged with felonies aggravated assault and strangulation, along with other charges. He was arrested Saturday after receiving medical treatment at Butler Memorial Hospital for a broken ankle, according to police.Police filed the more serious felony charges after reviewing surveillance video May 13 from the hotel where Stevenson was staying.In that video, police alleged that they saw Stevenson and the victim talking in the hotel's vestibule. Police said the video shows Stevenson and the victim rolling across the floor with Stevenson on top of her.In the video, Stevenson allegedly begins striking the victim with his right fist and he hits her a total of 22 times by the police's estimation. The victim is seen trying to escape. After allegedly hitting her again with a “hammer fist” to the head and face, he picks the victim off the ground and drags her out of the vestibule. The alleged attack continues in a different part of the establishment.“You can see the terror and panic in her face as they round the corner,” Butler Township Officer Rachel Dovidio wrote in court documents.Stevenson allegedly has his left arm under the victim's left arm and his right arm is under her right arm and his right hand is seen grabbing the victim's throat. The victim continues to struggle as she is allegedly slammed into a door. Stevenson grabs the victim's head and hair and tosses her to the floor, according to police.Stevenson allegedly appears to straddle the victim and chokes her again.Another resident opens his door and yells at Stevenson, who runs away.When police arrived at the scene, Stevenson could not walk because he hurt his ankle jumping out of a second-story window after the alleged attack.Because of the injury, police took Stevenson to the Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment and arrested him after he received medical attention.
