Woman sentened in welfare fraud case
A Connoquenessing Township woman was sentenced Thursday to two years of probation for illegally obtaining more than $7,600 in public assistance.
In 2019, the state Inspector General's Office charged Tiffany M. Kroll, 34, with fraudulently collecting $4,087 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, formerly known as food stamps, and $3,544 in cash assistance benefits. Prosecutors charged her with several felonies. On April 26, she pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of fraudulently obtaining food stamps.
Investigators said Kroll was not entitled to the benefits she collected between June 1, 2018, and April 30, 2019, because she failed to report income from a restaurant job to the state's Department of Human Services. According to charging documents, Kroll would have been “totally ineligible to receive any SNAP or cash benefits” if she had reported that income.
