Adams planners look at possible GetGo
ADAMS TWP — Sketches of plans for a GetGo came before the planning commission Wednesday night.
The proposed gas station and convenience store would sit at the Three Degree Road-Route 228 intersection. It would include a car wash.
Pat Avolio, senior director of real estate development with Giant Eagle Inc., said the location would be on property purchased from the Mars Home for Youth.
“We're going to subdivide 2.5 acres off,” Avolio said.
That property accounts for the widening of Route 228, according to Avolio. The Balls Bend project is underway now.
“That actually been why this thing has been ongoing ... for several years,” Avolio said.
He added Giant Eagle Inc. has been working with PennDOT on traffic plans, and that there were no outstanding traffic comments as of Wednesday.
According to plans Avolio presented, the proposed location would have a 5,500 square-foot cafe/market building. The car wash would be about 1,800 square feet.
The station is expected to have six fuel dispensers, totaling 12 fuel stations.
Avolio said plans were downsized in this area.
“What we found with the pandemic and everything else is that gasoline sales appear to be permanently reduced,” Avolio said.
The station would be accessible via a right turn in, right turn out from Route 228.
“We would have a ... right turn lane into the site,” Avolio said.
The planning commission suggested Avolio and his team look into ways to mitigate parking issues that may arise from youth sports games played on the Three Degree Road fields.
Resident Tim Stack asked what kind of antifreeze would be used in the car wash.
“There's a choice between propylene glycol and ethy(lene) glycol,” Stack said. “One's extremely toxic, the other one's not.”
Stack said he's concerned about chemicals in water runoff.
The Giant Eagle team said it would look into what's used and inform the township.
