Jean B. Gregg

Jean B. Gregg, 92, affectionately known as Moo, or Muzzy, passed away on April 29, 2021, surrounded by family.

Jean was born on July 7, 1928, in Crafton, Pa., to James Robert Bowser Sr. and Jean Kelley Bowser.

As a daughter of a military father during World War II, she lived not only in the Pittsburgh area, but also in Cheyenne, Wyo., Morehead City, N.C., and Fort Monroe, Va.

Jean graduated from Oakmont High School in 1945 and went on to attend Grove City College.

Jean married the love of her life, Thomas S. Gregg Sr. of Oakmont, June 15, 1947. They moved from the Pittsburgh area to Denver, Colo., for a year before spending two years in Denison, Texas. They relocated to Southern California, first to Long Beach then to Riverside, where they had two sons, Michael (1957), and Thomas Jr. (1959). In 1965, they returned to their roots with a move to Western PA, and settled in Butler, where their daughter, Judith, was born in 1967.

Jean was a devoted, loving wife and mother, who actively supported all three children in their pursuits, academically, creatively and athletically.

Beloved by her extended family, she hosted annual Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings with great love and generosity. She was an active (now honorary) member of the Butler Garden Club for over 30 years. She always had a trusty cocker spaniel following her around the house or curled up next to her on the couch, as well as a fascination with rabbits, of which she collected too many to count.

Her husband, Tom Sr., passed away in 2009, after a marriage that spanned 62 years.

She is survived by her three children, Michael David Gregg and his wife, Jane Turton, of Woodland, Calif., Thomas Stewart Gregg Jr. and his wife, Tammi Kennedy, of Kansas City, Mo., and Judith Gregg Holden and her husband, Kevin T. Holden, of Fox Chapel; and six grandchildren, Abigail Gregg, 30; Amity Gregg, 27; Fiona Gregg, 25; Caldwell Gregg Holden, 22; Stewart Kennedy Gregg, 17; and Lillian Kennedy Gregg, 15; as well as one brother, David E. Bowser of Ashland, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her brother, James Robert Bowser Jr. of Annapolis, Md.

A special thanks to all who went above and beyond caring for Jean, including Beth Weitzel of Butler, Presbyterian Senior Care in Oakmont, and Bridges Hospice.
