Leroy I. Shipton
Leroy I. Shipton, 92, of Mars, formerly of Glacial Till Road, Liberty Township, Mercer County, passed peacefully on Thursday, June 3, 2021, following a yearlong illness.
Leroy was born Dec. 2, 1928, in Grove City, to Irvin Leroy and Haddie Shipton.
He married Wilma L. Warren on June 5, 1953. She preceded him in death in 1994. He later married Ann E. (Beaton) Thompson in 2000. She survives in Mars.
Leroy was a graduate of Grove City High School. Following graduation, Leroy served for four years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Salem during the Korean War.He was a member of the Slippery Rock Alliance Church.Leroy retired in 1992 from the former Rostas and Shipton TV and Appliance Store in Grove City that started in 1963. Previously, he was employed by Cooper Bessemer and the Johnstone Foundry.Leroy is survived by his wife, Ann, of Mars; his three children, Joni Bencic, Daniel Shipton and his wife, Karen, both of Slippery Rock, and Brian Shipton and his wife, Michelle, of Mars; and five grandchildren, Sarah Bencic, and Jesse, Jacob, Marla and Courtney Shipton.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma; and a sister, Helen Winger Kerr.SHIPTON — Graveside services for Leroy I.
