Man accused of stealing items from bridge project
Police have accused a Butler man of stealing construction equipment from a Washington Township bridge project.
On Wednesday, state police arrested and charged Michael G. Weber, 42, of Butler, with felony theft after they said he was seen on video stealing from the construction site at the Christie Road Bridge.
Following his arraignment Wednesday by District Judge Lewis Stoughton, Weber was placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bond.
According to charging documents, a number of items were stolen, including pieces of aluminum components, such as arched beams, some spanning as long as 10 feet.
Police said Weber also stole other items from around the site, such as a cooler, a chain and three steel gas cans.
The entirety of the theft was valued at about $3,335, and it all belonged to Davis Demolition and Excavating, according to documents.
“A camera set at the construction site captured photographs of the actors, including the defendant, Michael G. Weber, removing the items from the site Aug. 30 at approximately 7:45 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.,” said the investigating officer in the affidavit.
Police said Weber was arrested from a location on the 200 block of Sutton Lane in Brady Township.
While the wording of the affidavit indicated multiple people involved, Weber is the only one charged so far. His court documents show no codefendants.
A preliminary hearing for Weber has been scheduled for Sept. 21 before Stoughton.
