Fairfield Inn purchased by franchiser
The new owner of the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Butler Township appears to be a serial hotel franchiser in Western Pennsylvania.
In a deed filed Thursday with the Butler County recorder's office, the new owner of the hotel property is identified as Butler Hospitality Group Inc., with the president of that company identified as Jagan Bandaru.
Bandaru is also president of Butler Lodging Inc., owner of the Holiday Inn Express on North Duffy Road. The North Duffy Holiday Inn is a franchise of IHG Hotels & Resorts, a British company whose brands — including Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza and Regent — are on nearly 6,000 hotels worldwide.
At least two other IHG hotels in Western Pennsylvania — a Candlewood Suites and a Holiday Inn Express, both in Belle Vernon — are owned or have been owned by a company for which Bandaru is listed as president.
Companies associated with Bandaru have also owned multiple other hotels with different brands. A now-defunct Quality Inn, a Choice Hotels brand, in Greensburg was owned by a Bandaru company, and Bandaru is listed as president of Meadowlands Hospitality Inc., which owns the Radisson-branded Country Inn & Suites in Washington, Pa.
The Butler Fairfield Inn is no longer listed on the Marriott website for booking.
The hotel was sold for $2 million as part of a real estate auction, which occurred after the mortgagor foreclosed on the property due to nonpayment. That purchase price is just one-quarter of the roughly $8 million for which the hotel sold in 2007.
