Armstrong Comfort Solutions and Matt Mertz Plumbing of Pittsburgh have merged to provide plumbing, and heating and cooling services throughout Western Pennsylvania.

The merger completed Oct. 29 expands Armstrong Comfort Solutions' presence in Pittsburgh and areas south, while bringing Matt Mertz's capabilities to Butler and surrounding counties.

Mertz is a lifelong plumber who started his business from scratch, said Kathie O'Hara, Armstrong spokeswoman.

Among the features of Mertz's business that Armstrong values is the ability to repair sewer lines without digging a trench to reach the pipe.

“Matt Mertz is a leader in trenchless pipe service, which we didn't previously offer,” O'Hara said. “It requires specific equipment and training.”

She said the merged companies have a combined workforce of about 110 people, and Armstrong is hiring for all positions.

“We are always looking for additional employees. We provide excellent pay, benefits and training,” O'Hara said. “We are currently accepting applications for every position.”

She said the company wants people with experience in the field, but is willing to train the right candidates.

Matt Mertz Plumbing is retaining its local leadership, management and plumbing experts under the guidance of Mertz, and will continue to operate under the Matt Mertz Plumbing brand.

Armstrong Comfort Solutions, a member of the Armstrong Group, provides plumbing and HVAC service and support for homes and businesses in Western Pennsylvania from offices in Allegheny, Butler and Armstrong counties. Armstrong specializes in repair, replacement and maintenance of sewer lines, heating, cooling, clean air, clean water and plumbing.

Armstrong acquired Bradigans Heating and Cooling of Kittanning in 2019 and R.W. McDonald and Sons' plumbing and HVAC business in 2018.
