Favorites from library director

Lori Hinderliter, executive director of the Butler Public Library shared two of her favorite Christmas cookie recipes.

“The Christmas Crunchies recipe was included in a Christmas card from my grandmother approximately 45 years ago. The Chocolate Crinkle recipes is one of my all-time favorites,” she said.

Christmas Crunchies½ cup butter¼ teaspoon salt½ cup brown sugar¼ teaspoon baking powder½ cup white sugar1 cup oatmeal1 egg (well beaten)1 cup corn flakes½ teaspoon vanilla½ cup coconut1 cup flour½ cup chopped nuts (pecans)½ teaspoon baking sodaCream butter, add sugars then egg and vanilla.Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture.Last, add corn flakes, oatmeal, coconut and nuts. Roll into small balls and place about 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet.Bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes. Makes approximately 6 dozen cookies.

Choclate Crinkles½ cup vegetable oil2 cups flour4 squares unsweetened chocolate (melted)2 teaspoons baking powder2 cups sugar ½ teaspoon salt4 eggs1 cup powdered sugar2 teaspoons vanillaMix oil, chocolate, and sugar.Blend in one egg at a time until well mixed. Add vanilla. Stir flour, baking powder and salt into oil mixture.Chill. Drop by teaspoonfuls in powder sugar. Shape into balls. Bake on greased at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
