Margaret H. Meeker

Margaret H. Meeker died Nov. 10, 2021, at OSU Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

She was born Nov. 6, 1938, in Butler, to Joseph Huth and Hazel (Mellinger) Huth. She was the youngest of three children.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Joseph, and her sister, Nancy, both of Butler.

She graduated from Butler High School, and was a 1959 graduate of Butler Memorial Hospital nursing program, RN; and the University of Pittsburgh graduate, BSN.

Her nursing career spanned 46 years, including director of the operating room at Butler Memorial Hospital, Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh, and she retired after 26 years at OSU Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. During her career at OSU, she served as director of the operating rooms and recovery rooms.

She was an active member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) of Columbus, and was past president of the National AORN from 1983 to 1984.

She was a gifted author and speaker. She co-authored five editions of Alexander's “Care of The Patient in Surgery,” spanning a 20-year period, and she spoke professionally to the American College of Surgeons among others.

She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Doug.

She adored her stepchildren and daughter-in-law, Susan Thomas of New London, Conn., and Matthew (Carolyn) Meeker of Madison, Conn.; her grandchildren, Austin Rose Clinton of Connecticut, and twins, Lauren and Brooke Meeker of Storrs, Conn.

She was a loving and thoughtful aunt to her many nieces and nephews, and their families.

She was an avid Buckeye fan, Steelers fan, and a Pitt fan. Football was her favorite. She spent the last 14 winters on Anna Maria Island, Fla., where she leaves a wealth of friends.

She loved bridge and played regularly in Florida and Powell. She was an active member of the Women's Club of Powell, and New Hope Church of Powell. She sang in the New Hope Church Choir for many years. Her faith in God and her church were an anchor in her life.

In addition to her love of family, she was a kind, loving, loyal friend to all who knew her.

She was a member of the Butler High School Alumni Association Class of 1956, and was a steadfast friend and member of the “Butler Girls,” lifelong friends and nurses who Zoom every Friday, nursing Class of 1959.

She loved and was loved and is dearly missed.
