Scouts raise funds for Christmas gifts
Boy Scout Troop 58 of Middlesex Township raised more than $7,400 to buy Christmas gifts and gift cards for 49 children in 21 local families.
The troop raised the money through a letter-writing campaign and a congregational donation of $1,477 from Valencia United Methodist Church.
The church raised the funds by scrapping a wrought-iron fence the scouts removed from Mount Olive Cemetery in Adams Township, a community dinner and donations at the door on the night of the dinner.
The scouts shopped for the gifts and delivered them, along with wrapping paper, to the families in need.
