Man accused of charging at police during domestic
A man allegedly yelled and charged at Butler Police officers during a domestic incident early Thursday.
Nicholas A. Edwards, 27, of Butler, was arrested at his home on the 300 block of Monroe Street and was then charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor obstruction.
Edwards was arraigned by District Judge Kevin O’Donnell and placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail.
According to charging documents, police were called to the home by Edwards’ girlfriend, who claimed he came home drunk and picked up a 4-month-old child. Police arrived shortly after.
“Edwards was uncooperative, pacing about the house holding the child,” said the investigating officer in the affidavit.
Police said Edwards gave the child to another adult in the home before becoming aggressive with police as they investigated.
Police said Edwards yelled at officers multiple times, telling them to leave the home.
“Edwards continually positioned himself between officers and (his girlfriend) in an effort to prevent them from speaking to her,” police said.
Police said they eventually were able to speak with the girlfriend, and Edwards moved up a set of stairs. Police watched from the bottom of the stairs and saw Edwards approach again, this time in a threatening manner.
“Edwards attempted to push his way through officers,“ police said. ”Edwards made physical contact with officers by running directly into them.“
A preliminary hearing has not been scheduled, but will be before District Judge William Fullerton.
