James R. Leone
James R. Leone, 92, of Slippery Rock, passed away Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, at Westbury United Methodist Retirement Community in Meadville.
He was born Nov. 23, 1929, in Boyers, to Ralph and Edith Vitale Leone.
He married Carmella “Clara” Agostino on May 2, 1953, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 30, 2015, following 62 years of marriage. Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, and then in the Army Reserve from 1953 to 1957. He worked at Slippery Rock University for 43 years, retiring in 2004, as the electrical shop foreman. He received the President's Award for Outstanding Service in 1981, and had near perfect attendance for all of his 43 years.He was a member of St. Faustina Parish, St. Anthony Church in Forestville. Survivors include his son, Timothy (Valarie) Leone of Meadville; two grandsons, Chris Leone of Denver, Colo., and Pat (Bridget) Leone and his great-granddaughter, Greer, of Mount Lebanon; a sister, Dora Bonetti; and a brother, Edward Leone.He enjoyed hunting, gardening, and spending time with family. Jim worked extremely hard to provide for his family, and always put their needs before his. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and was willing to lend a hand to those who needed help. He will be deeply missed. In addition to his wife, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, Ben Leone; his sisters, Mary Dorcy and Katherine Trevelline; and an infant sister, Emma Leone.LEONE — A viewing for James R. Leone, who died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, with a memorial service to immediately follow at 6:30 p.m. Due to the pandemic conditions, the family requests CDC guidelines be followed and that all attendees wear masks to protect others. Interment will follow privately later at Slippery Rock Cemetery.
