James Burke

James “Jim” H. Burke, 89, of Cranberry Township, passed away at his family home on Dec. 13, 2021.

He was born Aug. 12, 1932, in West View, to Herman “Smokey” Burke and Ellen Hood Burke.

Jim graduated from West View High School, then married his high school sweetheart, Sally Hubbard on Nov. 29, 1952. Jim served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Alaska.After his military service, Jim and Sally relocated to their current home in Cranberry Township. In 1959, Jim became an original founder of the volunteer fire department, where he served as the first fire chief.Jim was a crane operator with Local 66 Operating Engineers, where he was instrumental in building many bridges, as well as the Pittsburgh International Airport. He was also the owner of a fabricating company in Cranberry Township. Jim's hobbies included golf and playing the organ. Jim and Sally also enjoyed winters in Florida.Jim is survived by his spouse of 69 years, Sally Hubbard Burke; their three children, James (Diana) Burke of Waddy, Ky., Becky (Ken) Deemer of Valencia, and Tracy (Doug) Wayne of Clay, W.Va.; his seven grandchildren; and his five great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy LeBaron.BURKE — There are no services planned at this time for James “Jim” H. Burke, who died Monday, Dec. 13, 2021.Jim will be laid to rest at Highwood Cemetery in Pittsburgh.Arrangements have been entrusted to Boylan-Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Home, 130 Wisconsin Ave., Cranberry Township.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.boylanfuneralservices.com.
