Winter storm ahead

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh reports a winter storm watch remains in effect from Sunday afternoon through Monday afternoon for Western Pennsylvania including Butler County.

Heavy snow accumulations of between 6 and 11 inches are possible.

Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute.

The AAA Motor Club recommends keeping extra food and water, warm clothing, a flashlight, a glass scraper, blankets, medications and more in your vehicle.

AAA suggests, if possible, to stay home. Only go out if necessary.

Drive slowly and accelerate and decelerate slowly.

Don’t stop if you can avoid it.

Don’t power up hills. Applying extra gas on snow-covered roads will just make your vehicle’s wheels spin.

Don’t stop going up a hill. There’s nothing worse than trying to get moving up a hill on an icy road. Get some inertia going on a flat roadway before you take on a hill.
