‘American Rust’ not renewed

A fictional Buell, Fayette County, police vehicle showed up in Zelienople July 2021 during filming of the Showtime series “American Rust,” which was not renewed for a second season.

CRANBERRY TWP — “American Rust,” a television series on Showtime shot partly in Butler County, will not be renewed for a second season, the network said Tuesday.

A spokesperson for Showtime said in an emailed statement Tuesday that the nine-episode first season of “American Rust,” which aired from September through November and which was shot partly in Middlesex Township and Zelienople, will be its last.

“We can confirm that ‘American Rust’ will not be moving forward with a second season,” the statement read. “We would like to thank our partners at Boat Rocker, our talented showrunner Dan Futterman and the rest of the wonderful writers, and our amazing cast led by Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney.”
