Warmer temperatures, rain forecast this week for Butler County
Butler County residents will see temperatures reach the low-40s to kick off February, but by the end of the week, temperatures are expected to drop back down to the single-digit figures that were recorded throughout much of January.
Jared Rackley, meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said a low-pressure system is making its way through the Tennessee Valley and is expected to hit Western Pennsylvania by Thursday, bringing with it some rain and possibly snow by the weekend.
Tuesday and Wednesday will be more mild, he said.
“(Tuesday) looks great; we are warming up to right around 40 degrees and sunny,” Rackley said. “We are looking at rain beginning on Wednesday to Wednesday night and some kind of wintry mix coming through with potential for some icing and snow Thursday.”
Rackley said Thursday will be a turning point winter-wise in the area. Friday and Saturday will see temperatures drop, possibly into the single digits, which could freeze Thursday’s rainfall into ice, adding potential for isolated flooding.
Wind chill isn’t a major concern this week, according to Rackley, but the real temperature feel could be close to zero degrees this weekend because of winds.
He also said Butler County might receive some snow this weekend, but the National Weather Service has not issued any severe winter advisories as of now.
“The heavier snowfall is probably going to be farther north,” Rackley said. “We're not sure who is going to get what.”
