Salvation Army to introduce new after-school program at open house
The Butler Salvation Army will have an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at its Butler worship and service center, 313 W. Cunningham St., to introduce its new Ark of Learning after-school program.
Planned to begin Feb. 14, the program will be offered from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Major Darlene Means, commanding officer of the Salvation Army Butler worship and service center, said there will be homework assistance from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., dinner from 4:30 to 5 p.m. and recreation time from 5 to 6 p.m. The program is open to children from kindergarten through fifth grade and there are 20 available slots.
Means and her husband, Major David Means, as well as volunteers will oversee the after-school program. “Some kids need that extra little help from a parent figure,” she said. Those wishing to volunteer for Ark of Learning should call Major Darlene Means at 724-287-5532.
