Police are accusing a Cranberry Township man of pointing a gun at a vehicle, which is alleged to have been in retaliation to a racially charged exchange.

Cranberry Township Police filed charges Wednesday against Albert K. Agbim, 24, including felony unlicensed carrying of a gun and misdemeanor simple assault and reckless endangerment.

Police were called around 10:49 p.m. Jan. 10 to meet the accusers, three men, in the parking lot of Walmart in Cranberry Township. The accusers told police that a man in a dark-colored car with tinted windows pointed a gun at them at a stop light along Route 228.

“The males stated while stopped at a red light, they observed the barrel of a handgun pressed against the front, passenger-side window, pointed at them,” said the investigating officer in the affidavit.

Police said the men also claimed they were followed by the gun-wielding driver for an indeterminate amount of time. Police said they managed to get away from the other vehicle without any other interactions.

Police tracked license plate information to a vehicle owned by Agbim, and they talked with him at his home.

“Agbim stated the males rolled their windows down and yelled, ‘I hate (racial slur),’ and then proceeded to ‘point and laugh’ in his direction,” police said. “Agbim stated he then rolled his passenger side window down and ‘raised his gun.’”

Police said Agbim also told officers why he followed the vehicle after the red-light encounter.

“Agbim stated he then followed the males because his ‘goal’ was to tell them ‘their actions are dangerous and they need to be more careful or they might cross the wrong individual,’” police said.

Police said Agbim told officers the gun in question was in his vehicle, and officers recovered the 9mm pistol, which was loaded with 10 rounds in the magazine. Police said Agbim also admitted that he did not have a concealed-carry permit.

Agbim is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing March 4 before District Judge Kevin Flaherty.
