Slippery Rock Twp. uses funds for truck, road project
Slippery Rock Township’s board of supervisors voted at a meeting Monday night to use some American Rescue Plan funds for a pickup truck and a road project on Arrowhead Drive.
The township received a total of $321,375 and expects the same amount in July of this year, according to supervisor Paul Dickey.
The board voted to purchase a Ford Ranger pickup truck for the township for $29,535 with the funds. Dickey said the new truck could take a year to receive.
“Our old truck is 21 years old, and we can’t trade it in. It’s run down,” he said.
The supervisors also voted to advertise a potential road project on Arrowhead Drive, which would also be paid for by American Rescue Plan funds. According to Dickey, the project would involve replacing a pipe under the road that has a hole.
The project does not have an estimated cost as it’s going out to bid, Dickey said.
The American Rescue Plan funds have to be used by 2026.
The supervisors discussed putting in an application for a new grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. The Racehorse Development and Gaming Act supplies funds from $5,000 to $1 million.
“There’s money out there if you ask for it,” Dickey said. “Sometimes you get it, sometimes not.”
The board discussed proposing purchases of a new dump truck, tractor mower and salt shed in the application.
The dump truck would cost a total of $187,737.
The discussion of purchasing the tractor and mower was tabled until further notice. Dickey said the two pieces of equipment would assist in mowing road berms and cost a total of $74,780.
The next board of supervisors meeting will be at 3 p.m. Feb. 28.
