Two arrested in city drug bust

Investigators allegedly found a diverse array of drugs in a Monday evening bust in the city.

With a warrant granted by District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz, the Butler County Drug Task Force at 5:48 p.m. Monday searched 120 South Street. The Butler County Emergency Unit and the Butler City Police assisted with the search.

According to charging documents, found multiple drugs, including 3.45 grams of crack cocaine; 116 stamp bags of heroin or fentanyl; 40.79 grams cocaine; and 73.39 grams marijuana.

“The suspected crack cocaine and cocaine were field tested, and (they) tested positive,” said the lead investigator in the affidavit. “The suspected heroin or fentanyl was not field tested because of safety concerns of fentanyl exposure.”

After the search, two residents of the home were charged. Desmond R. Cash, 49, and Tamela L. Stevens, 47, were both charged with four felony counts drug sales as well as misdemeanor drug paraphernalia possession and marijuana possession.

Before the search, investigators said they saw Cash and Stevens leave the home and drive away in a vehicle.

“That vehicle was stopped and both Cash and Steens were detained for the warrant. Cash was found to have $2,214 (in cash) on his person, which was subsequently seized,” investigators said. “Stevens was found to have $80 (cash) on her person which was subsequently seized.”

Police also found multiple surveillance cameras in the home, multiple forms of identity for both Cash and Stevens and a digital scale with white powder residue on it.

Both Cash and Stevens were arraigned Monday morning by Marcinkiewicz, and they were placed in Butler County Prison on $100,000 bond each.

They will appear next for preliminary hearings before District Judge William Fullerton, but those dates were not available as of noon Tuesday.
