Flood watch issued for county, region
County residents looking to enjoy the unseasonably high temperatures today will need an umbrella and maybe rubber boots to do so.
The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh set the high temperature at 55 for Thursday but added in rain showers for the entire afternoon and evening.
The expected rainfall is one-half to three-quarters of an inch for a large swath of northwestern Pennsylvania, meaning the melting of the snow that was piled up, coupled with rain, could cause flooding.
According to the NWS, that combination could cause heavy runoff, which could quickly cause rivers, creeks and streams to breach their banks.
Low-lying areas that are prone to flooding could also be affected, the NWS said.
The flood threat lasts until Friday morning.
NWS meteorologists recommend everyone monitor the weather and remain alert for the flood watch to switch to the more urgent flood warning.
Those in flood-prone areas should prepare to take action in case flooding occurs.
