Winter weather advisory in effect

The National Weather Service of Pittsburgh issued a winter weather advisory for Butler and surrounding counties through 10 a.m. Friday.

Cloudy conditions and rain were to begin in the 6 to 8 p.m. window Thursday, then transition into freezing rain in the later hours. By midnight, rain was predicted to return.

The wintry mix precipitation could produce one-tenth of an inch of ice on roads.

Temperatures Thursday night were expected to hover around 32 degrees, according to the weather service. Temperatures were expected to drop throughout the day Friday from a high of 37 degrees at 9 a.m. to 30 degrees in the afternoon.

PennDOT announced implementation of Tier 1 speed and vehicle restriction plans for 7 p.m. Thursday. This discourages tractors without trailers, motorcycles, towing trailers and motorhomes from traveling on affected roads.
