Jay Mackey
Jay Clarence Mackey, 88, of Slippery Rock, and formerly of Stanley, N.D., passed away at Transitions Health Care at Autumn Grove in Harrisville, on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022, following an extended illness.
He was born in West Liberty borough on July 24, 1933, to Clarence Jay Mackey and Florence Susan Castor Mackey.
He was in the U.S. Air Force, having served from March 1953 until March 1957.
He was married to Madelyn Joanne Tomai McConnell, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 7, 1975. He later married Mary Jo Sink, who also preceded him in death.
Jay was a crop duster and had his own spraying business in Stanley, N.D. He also was a pilot, pilot instructor and very proficient welder.
In his retirement, he often went out for coffee and his daily meals to spend time with friends and share conversation.
Survivors include his daughter, Maddy J. (Rick) Coon of Grove City; and seven stepchildren, and two sisters, Betty (Kirb) Osborne and Beverly Barron, all of Slippery Rock.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in law, John Barron.
MACKEY — Family of Jay Clarence Mackey, who died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022, will receive friends from 3 p.m. until the time of the service at 5 p.m. Thursday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
