County may move 3 more voting sites
After moving three voting sites ahead of the primary elections, Butler County commissioners may be tasked with moving three more.
County solicitor H. William White on Wednesday told commissioners that the Bureau of Elections said it may need to move three additional polling locations in Summit Township and the city of Butler.
The three locations are the Summit Township North polling place, as well as the Butler City 2 and 4-1 voting sites. Commissioners in February approved moving polling sites in Center Township, Eau Claire and Evans City.
White did not say why the bureau looks to move the additional three locations Wednesday, but when commissioners moved the other sites in February he said it was part of the bureau’s review to see whether the polling places adequately served the needs of voters, including by having adequate parking, providing accessibility to disabled people and being large enough in size to accommodate voters.
As of Nov. 2, there were 1,128 registered voters in the Summit Township North precinct, which is currently located at the Lick Hill fire hall at 122 McClelland Drive.
In the Butler City 2 precinct, 875 voters were registered as of Nov. 2, and they voted at Terrace Apartments, 111 South Cliff St.
The Butler City 4-1 precinct has the fewest registered voters of the three sites commissioners may move, with 750 registered as of Nov. 2. Those voters went to the First United Methodist Church, 200 E. North St., to cast their ballots.
