Mars Borough Council member resigns

MARS — Mars Borough Council member James “Rick” Foster resigned at the council’s meeting Monday night.

Foster was not present at the meeting, but Borough Council member Robert Bost said Foster had sent his resignation in by text. After confirming with solicitor Chris Reese, members Christine Clutter, Brad Price, Robert Bost and Julie Schultheis voted to accept Foster’s resignation.

A reason for his resignation was not disclosed.

Foster served as a member of the council for three terms. He was council coordinator of the Streets Department, and his term was scheduled to end Dec. 31, 2023.

Council will have 45 days to appoint someone to fill Foster’s seat. Information has been posted on the borough’s website detailing the responsibilities of the position. Only registered electors of the borough who have lived in the borough for at least one year are eligible to apply.

Anyone interested in applying for the role is asked to submit a letter of interest to the Mars Borough Council.

Mars Borough Mayor Gregg Hartung expressed interest in sending a letter of thanks to Foster for his service.
