Giesler 90th birthday
Dorothy M. Giesler of Penn Township celebrated her 90th birthday March 8 with a quiet dinner at home.
Family and friends should plan to celebrate with Dorothy at an open house in Butler on a weekend in May at a venue to be determined. In the meantime, birthday wishes can be mailed to 420 Dutchtown Road, Butler, PA 16002.
Born March 8 , 1932, on Bessemer Avenue in Lyndora, she was the youngest of six children by Croatian immigrants Nick and Dorothea Chos. After their untimely deaths in 1936 and 1940, she lived with her godparents in Warren, Ohio, for several years, then returned to attend Butler High School
She married David A. Giesler on Aug. 2, 1952. He died in 1992.
She has a son, David B. Giesler, with whom she lives.
As a young woman, she worked for Bortmas Flowers, Peoples Telephone Co., Dent’s Fabric Shop and Magnetics Inc.
She joined the GFWC Penn Township Woman’s Club in 1965 and devoted countless hours as an office-holder or committee member until the club disbanded in 2015. She served as judge of elections in Penn Township in the 1970s and 1980s.
In retirement, she enjoys the Pittsburgh Pops, Currier & Ives, photography, philosophy and nature, especially her bluebirds. She is proud to be the “favorite aunt” to her many nieces and nephews and their families.
