Freedom Road construction to start up again for spring
Freedom Road in Cranberry Township will see continued construction over evenings and weekends beginning March 28, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced.
The impacted area is between Haine School Road and Commonwealth Drive/T-995.
A new traffic pattern will be implemented as contractor Gulisek Construction works outside of the shoulder area.
“It won’t be anything overly dramatic — it will just be some lane shifts, and some of the traffic patterns will change as they do the work,” PennDOT spokeswoman Christina Gibbs said. “They may need to temporarily or permanently change some lanes, so it’s a notification to motorists to be aware and use caution that things in that area are getting back underway.”
The construction is part of the second season of the two-year project, and will include short term traffic control during evenings and weekends for road, drainage and signal work to be completed.
This project is an extension of the larger Freedom Road project, which included new highway and turning lanes, widening, paving, drainage, signal upgrade/replacement, lighting work, highway realignment, safety improvements and sidewalks. The $9.8 million project is estimated to be completed in Fall of 2022.
“We are kind of in the final stretch at this point, because we are still on schedule to be completed in the fall,” Gibbs said. “Typically, things will slow down for us in the winter. There’s only so much we can do when we have got snow and ice and winds and cold temperatures. This is the first portion that has started back up again as we’ve hit into some better weather.”
