Middlesex Twp receives $10,000 grant for playground

Middlesex Township will receive a $10,000 grant from the Butler County Parks Renovation Program to support the playground construction project at the Middlesex Township Community Park.

The township had approved an application for the grant in February.

Township manager Adam Hartwig said the funds would be used as part of a cash match required for the previous larger grant received by the township for the planned playground, a $204,500 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

“We’re required to have a 50% cash match for that, or in-kind work. This $10,000 grant through the county will be used to go toward that,” Hartwig said.

The ongoing construction projects in the park are on track to be completed by the beginning of summer, he said.

“Our pavilion got delivered this morning, and our playground is slated to be delivered by the end of this month,” he said. “Through March and April, as long as it stays dry, we are going to do all of our site prep work, and look to have the playground and pavilion installed by the beginning of summer.”

The wrap-around trail construction will begin again in April once the asphalt plants open up, Hartwig said.

“(They will) put the final layer of wearing course asphalt down and finish the restoration, and plant the grass,” he said. “It should all be getting done here in time for summer.”
