Cliffs plant operating after fire
The Cleveland-Cliffs Butler Works plant is operational today after a fire broke out at a finishing line in the plant on Wednesday night.
Cleveland Cliffs officials issued a news release at about midnight stating that the a fire broke out at 9:45 p.m. in an overhead cable tray at a finishing line in the plant.
Employees were immediately evacuated and no injuries were reported, said Patricia Persico, Cliffs spokeswoman.
The fire was contained quickly and was extinguished by midnight.
Butler Township Volunteer Fire District, Butler Bureau of Fire, Penn Township Volunteer Fire Department, Unionville Volunteer Fire Company, Department Of Veterans Affairs Fire Department and Butler Ambulance Services responded to the fire.
Persico said the company is assessing the situation.
“An investigation including representatives from Cleveland-Cliffs, United Auto Workers and Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been initiated,” Persico said in the release. “No additional details are available.”
