Robert Zalis Sr.
Robert B. Zalis Sr., 88, of Butler, passed away March 13, 2022, in Palm Beach, Fla.
Born Dec. 22, 1933, in West Liberty, Pa., he was a son of the late John W. Zalis and Ester C. (Ramsey) Zalis.
He was a retired roll grinder from the Armco Steel Plant in Butler, following 30 years.
He was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler, and the Happy Hunters Sportsman’s Club in Fenelton.
He was shuffleboard champion in Adelaide Shores, Fla. He previously managed Butler Area Little League Baseball for 15 years, and along with his wife, were campground hosts at the Shenango Reservoir. He was an avid bowler, had enjoyed helping many people in need with his handyman skills of many trades, as well as swimming, skiing and boating, as he had taken everyone he knew on his boat.
Surviving is his wife, Virginia M. (Smith) Zalis, whom he married May 8, 1954.
He is also survived by his daughter, Judy (the late Dennis) Hodak of Butler; his son, Robert (Ileana) Zalis Jr. of Juno Beach, Fla.; his grandchildren, Melissa (James) Scherrah, Joshua (Steffani) Hodak, Jeremi (Brent) Bloomfield and Vanessa (Tyler) McGrath; his great-grandchildren, Joey, Maggie and Zoltan Scherrah, Jaren, Colton and Luci Hodak, and Aiden Bloomfield; his brother, Joe (Joyce) Zalis of Pleasantville, Ky.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dolores; and his brother, Jack.
ZALIS — Friends of Robert B. Zalis Sr., who died Sunday, March 13, 2022, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler.
Entombment will follow at Calvary Mausoleum in Butler.
