Library begins Backyard Learning Speaker Series

SAXONBURG — Master gardener Bonnie Miller opens the South Butler Community Library’s Backyard Learning Speaker Series with a discussion about ticks and Lyme disease at 6 p.m. Thursday at the library, 240 W. Main St.

Participants will learn how to identify the ixodes tick and discover ways to prevent exposure to ticks and Lyme disease. A thorough discussion of Lyme's disease will include transmission methods, signs and symptoms, diagnostic tests and available treatments. The session is free to all community members and no registration is required. A door prize and refreshments will be provided.

The Backyard Learning Speaker Series will continue April 28 with Vegetable Gardening by master gardener Kathy Wilderoter, June 23 with native plants by master gardener Kathy Allen and July 28 with pollinator gardens by master gardeners Mary Alice Koeneke and Diane Watczak.
