2 hospitalized after Route 422 crash
CLEARFIELD TWP — Two people were sent to the hospital after their sedan crashed into a tractor trailer Thursday morning on Route 422.
Both hospitalized people were in a Subaru sedan that collided with a tractor trailer around 11 a.m. near Route 422’s intersection with South Clearfield Road.
According to state police investigating at the scene, both vehicles were going the same direction, and they collided as the Subaru was attempting a turn.
As firefighters worked at the scene, they restricted traffic to one lane and directed it through the middle of the road.
The tractor trailer had driven up the northern embankment, and its cab had jackknifed with its trailer. Following the collision, the sedan crashed into a guard rail on the southern side of the road.
The sedan had heavy front-end damage, and firefighters also had to put out a fire in its engine compartment.
One of those transported, a woman, was conscious as she was loaded into an ambulance. The other person’s condition is unknown.
Crews remained on scene for more than an hour as vehicles and debris were cleared from the road.
East Butler and Herman volunteer fire departments, as well as Butler and East Butler ambulance services, assisted at the scene.
