Police confirm Saturday incident as stabbing; injured man’s condition listed as stable
Butler Township Police on Sunday confirmed that a standoff Saturday afternoon in Butler Township involved a stabbing, which resulted in charges against one man and the hospitalization of another.
Kenneth E. Snyder Jr., 38, of Butler Township, has been charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor terroristic threats after Butler Township Police and the Butler County Emergency Services Unit responded to 101 Freeport Road.
District Judge Kevin Flaherty arraigned Snyder on Sunday morning. Snyder was sent to Butler County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bond.
Police said Snyder is accused of stabbing a 39-year-old man multiple times in the torso and leg. Police said the victim was taken to Butler Hospital for treatment of those injuries and was in stable condition.
“He further made threats to kill responding police officers,” police said. “The Butler County ESU responded due to Snyder barricading himself in the residence.”
Multiple police departments responded to a standoff at a home at the intersection of Center Avenue and Freeport Road in Butler Township early Saturday evening.
Around the scene Saturday, police described the incident as a possible “domestic situation.”
An armored vehicle was parked in front of the two-story home for the duration of the incident, and police officers moved around the scene in tactical gear and rifles. Some wore gas masks.
Bystanders watched from across the street in the snow and rain while officers removed two dogs from the house. Around 7:30 p.m., Snyder was escorted from the house wearing handcuffs. with traffic being clear by 8 p.m.
Assisting Butler Township were police from Butler City, Zelienople, Jackson Township and members of the Butler County 911 Command Center. Butler Township and Herman firefighters and Butler Ambulance EMTs also assisted at the scene.
A mixture of fire and police vehicles blocked Freeport Road for more than two hours while police continued working. Traffic along Center Avenue remained moving. Traffic resumed when the last of the police, fire and EMS vehicles left around 8 p.m.
The Family Dollar across the street from the home closed during the incident.
