Give credit where it is due
In March, you reported (“Bill has $8.5M for projects in 16th dist.,” March 11, Page 1) that Rep. Mike Kelly took credit for securing nearly $8.5 million in community project funding for Butler County, which was approved by Congress on March 9 in the omnibus spending package. What you failed to report is that Mr. Kelly actually voted AGAINST the omnibus spending package that day in a roll call vote.
The omnibus bill garnered bipartisan support in Congress, with 39 House Republicans joining 171 Democrats (including Rep. Conor Lamb) to approve the package. Mr. Kelly, however, was NOT among those 39 Republicans voting yes to approve funding for improvements to the Pittsburgh-Butler Regional Airport in Penn Township and the sewage treatment system in Cranberry Township.
Despite voting NO to these and many other vital projects in the spending bill, Mr. Kelly was reported by you to be “very pleased that we can deliver millions of taxpayer dollars back into our local communities."
The airport authority and Cranberry officials quoted in your article lavishing thankful praise on Mr. Kelly would do well to consider the facts and reserve their gratitude for those who deserve it — who actually voted FOR the bill, and President Biden, who signed it.
Shame on Mr. Kelly for taking credit for local infrastructure improvements that he actually voted against. And shame on the Butler Eagle for not reporting the full story. Watch what they do, not what they say!
