One student shot at Erie High School
One student was shot Tuesday morning at Erie High School, according to authorities.
“The individual is in good condition and has been transported to the hospital,” said Erie Police in social media posts. “The school is locked down, and students are safe.”
State police assisted local officers with the situation, which was reported around 9:25 a.m. Police said the shooter had fled the school.
Troopers began dismissing students from the school shortly after 11 a.m.
“The students are being released as each room is cleared,” police said in a Tweet. “They are exiting the rear of the school and can be reunified with parents at 34th and Peach (streets).”
U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, whose district includes Erie County as well as Butler County, issued a statement Tuesday morning.
“My team and I are closely monitoring the shooting at Erie High School," Kelly said. "I am praying for the recovery of the individual who was shot and for all involved.”
Kelly said he appreciated the first responders who rushed to the call, and he offered his office’s assistance.
“The Erie community is strong, and together we will heal from this tragedy,” Kelly said.
