Car crashes into church during Easter sale
BUTLER TWP — A line of people were waiting outside St. Michael Greek Catholic Church around 1 p.m. Friday to enter an Easter sale when a red Subaru rolled down the hill on Woodrow Street and slammed into the church wall, coming to a rest atop the wall.
Butler Township police said the driver, an elderly woman, was parked on Woodrow Street and shifted her car into the wrong gear, causing her to lose control, sideswipe a parked vehicle and slam into the Lyndora church. She was uninjured in the crash, according to police.
A tow truck maneuvered the vehicle off its precarious crooked perch on the church wall and away from the scene. Police said there was heavy front-end damage to the Subaru, and the sideswiped vehicle only had slight damage.
Police directed traffic on the road, opening one lane of Hansen Avenue at a time for traffic to pass both ways. The road reopened to two-way traffic shortly before 2 p.m.
City police, Butler Bureau of Fire, Butler Township Volunteer Fire District and Butler Ambulance Service also responded to the scene.
