Sex offender sentenced to 12-24 years in prison

Butler man failed to register address with officials

A Butler man who pleaded guilty to indecent assault charges in 2017 in Philadelphia was sentenced Thursday to serve more than 12 to 24 years in state prison for failing to register with state police and provide other information as required under Megan’s Law.

Deandre Toney Moore, 40, was sentenced to serve 12 years and three months to 24 years and six months in prison by Butler County Common Pleas Judge Kelley Streib, who found him guilty in a nonjury trial in January.

Streib found Moore guilty Jan. 24 of felony charges of failure to register with state police, failure to verify his address and failure to provide accurate registration information.

Butler police filed the charges in December 2020 after receiving notification from the state police Megan's Law section that Moore was not living at rental property on First Street that he had listed as his residence in November, authorities said.

A detective contacted the landlord, who said the defendant did not live there. Two tenants who lived at the home also told the detective they did not know Moore. Police said they called the cellphone number that was included in the Megan's Law contact information for Moore, but they learned the number no longer was in service.

Moore was found to be a Tier II sex offender and required to register with state police for 25 years after he pleaded guilty in 2017 to a misdemeanor charge of indecent assault filed in 2015 in Philadelphia. Records showed that he was sentenced to 11½ to 23 months in prison followed by three years of probation.

Before Moore was sentenced Thursday, his attorney J.W. Hernandez-Cuebas, asked for a sentence in the low range of sentencing guidelines. He said Moore was arrested because he moved but didn’t provide his probation officer with the new address until after he relocated.

Assistant District Attorney Mark Lope said Moore didn’t report his new address until after he was arrested.

Streib sentenced Moore to consecutively serve 60 to 120 months in prison for failure to register with state police, 60 to 120 months for failure to provide accurate registration information and 27 to 54 months for failure to verify his address. She said the prison terms are the minimum of the standard range in sentencing guidelines.
