Ernest J. Sebak
Ernest J. Sebak, of Palm Harbor, Fla., passed away Monday, April 11, 2022, at the Emory L. Bennett Veteran’s Nursing Home in Daytona Beach, Fla. Ernest celebrated his 100th birthday this year on March 12 with his family and friends.
Born March 12, 1922, in Natrona Heights, he was the son of Stephen Sebak and Mary Danik Sebak, immigrants from Europe through Ellis Island.
Ernest served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1948, serving on the USS New York during World War II. He received the following medals and/or ribbons: World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre, Asiatic Pacific, European African and Good Conduct.
He met and then married Mary Esther Ritter on Nov. 24, 1956.
He was a Saxonburg resident until 2008, when he moved to sunny Florida for his retirement. He worked at U.S Steel in Saxonburg, and was an avid farmer on his 150 acres.
He was a member of Holy Sepulcher Catholic Church in Butler during his residence in Saxonburg.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW Post 7376, and American Legion Post 683. He enjoyed time with his family, working at the VFW bar, playing poker, watching his favorite Pittsburgh sports teams, crossword puzzles and reading.
Surviving are his daughters, Margaret Yanchuk (Edward Yanchuk) of Daytona Beach, Fla., Deborah Butler (Thomas Butler) of Frankford, Del., Elaine Sebak-Sierra (Kevin Sierra) of North Andover, Mass., Christine Wagner (husband Paul predeceased) of West Chester, Ohio, and Cynthia Harnish (David Harnish) of Wexford; and his son, Ernest Sebak (Nan Sebak) of Penang, Malaysia.
He was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Jessica Smith, Edward Yanchuk, Stephen Yanchuk, Emily Butler, Caroline Byrne, Elise Sebak, Kristin Harnish, Deitra Harnish, Michael Harnish and Marek Sebak; and four great-grandchildren, Victoria, Claudia, Riley and Genevieve.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Esther Sebak; his parents, Stephen and Mary Sebak; and three sisters, Sister Margaret Bernarda, Helen Lasko and Mildred Howryla; and his son-in-law, Paul Wagner.
SEBAK — Friends of Ernest J. Sebak, who died Monday, April 11, 2022, will be received from 10 a.m. until noon Tuesday at FOX FUNERAL HOME, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg, where services will follow at noon.
Burial will be in Mount Airy Cemetery, Natrona, Pa.
