Ex-Butler man convicted of federal drug charges

A former Butler resident was convicted of conspiring to distribute fentanyl in Butler County between January 2017 and June 2020, according to U.S. Attorney Cindy K. Chung.

Damion Fray, 24, who lived in Butler and Philadelphia, pleaded guilty Wednesday before U.S. District Judge Robert J. Colville, who scheduled sentencing Aug. 17.

Fray was among nine state residents indicted by a grand jury in June 2020 for trafficking drugs in a network that supplied the drugs to Butler from Philadelphia.

The law provides for a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $1 million. Under federal sentencing guidelines, the sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history of the defendant.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Yvonne M. Saadi and Craig W. Haller prosecuted the case. Chung commended the state police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Butler County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force for the investigation leading to the conviction in this case.

Braden Yartz, 30, of Lyndora, who also was among those indicted, pleaded guilty to charges in February.
