Car mangled in morning crash
BUTLER TWP — A woman was ejected from her four-door Kia in a single-car crash during rush hour Friday morning.
Sgt. Robert Murphy of the Butler Township police said Vanessa Morrison, 31, of Slippery Rock was traveling north on Route 8 at about 7:15 a.m. when she struck a utility pole head-on at the south side of the Bean Street intersection.
The crash was so violent that the car’s engine dislodged and landed in the former Days Inn parking lot, while the transmission ended up in the middle of Route 8, Murphy said.
The mangled Kia sedan ended up in the southwest corner of the parking lot about 30 feet from the engine.
John Hays, Butler Township police chief, said Morrison was said to be breathing when she was taken by LifeFlight to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
She was the lone occupant of the Kia, he said.
Hays said the crash investigation could be aided by security camera footage from the nearby West Central Equipment on Route 8.
Traffic in the area of the Days Inn was slowed for about an hour as crews worked the accident scene.
Butler Fire District 3, Butler Bureau of Fire and Butler Ambulance Service also responded to the crash.
