BUTLER TWP -- A young woman was ejected from her four-door Kia in a violent single-car crash during rush hour Friday morning.

Sgt. Robert Murphy of the Butler Township police said the young woman was traveling north on Route 8 at about 7:15 a.m. when she struck a utility pole head-on at the south side of the Bean Street intersection.

The crash was so violent that the car’s engine dislodged and landed in the former Days Inn parking lot, while the transmission ended up in the middle of Route 8, Murphy said.

The badly mangled sedan ended up in the southwest corner of the Days Inn parking lot about 30 feet from the engine.

John Hays, Butler Township police chief, said the woman was said to be breathing when she was taken by helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

She was the lone occupant of the Kia, he said.
