Weavers to demonstrate skills

Six teams from the Weavers of Harmony will demonstrate their spinning and weaving skills in a free public event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 11 at the Harmony Museum’s Weavers Cabin, 245 Mercer St.

Each of the six teams will start with a sheep’s fleece, spin the fleece into yarn, then weave the yarn into a finished shawl.

Lisel Moser, of the Weavers of Harmony, said it is an “opportunity to see how clothing was once made,” and noted her excitement that the event will have six teams working this year.

Finished shawls will be on display and available for sale via silent auction throughout June at Wunderbar Coffee and Crepes, 453 Mercer St.

In addition to the weavers, sheep will be on site, weather permitting, for photographs and petting. Further, fleeces and used fiber equipment will be available for sale, and Ed Rowan, a spinning wheel restoration expert, will be on site to offer his insights.
