SV moves on in state tourney

Seneca Valley scored a run in the first inning and made it stand up for a 1-0 victory over Quakertown on a PIAA Class 6A softball quarterfinal Thursday at Messiah University.

Lexie Hames struck out 11 and tossed a 3-hitter for the Raiders (15-6), who won their 10th straight game. Hames win a pitchong duel over Sydney Andrews, who fanned six and also tossed a 3-hitter.

Seneca Valley will play Pennsbury (24-2), a 10-2 winner over North Allegheny, in Monday's semifinals at a site and time to be determined.

Quakertown (21-5) got a runner to third base in three different innings, but could not dent the scoreboard.

The Raiders won this game in different fashion, having piled up plenty of runs and hits in their most recent eight wins.
