More heat and rough storms to come

Updated forecasts show a greater intensity to the heat likely throughout the day and the storms that may follow it.

The National Weather Service of Pittsburgh has scheduled another heat advisory beginning at noon Thursday through 8 p.m.

The advisory notes high temperatures and humidity may cause heat-related illnesses. It also recommends drinking plenty of fluids, staying in a cooled room and staying out of the sun when possible.

Wednesday predictions suggested the region may lose some humidity throughout the night; however, the latest forecast calls for the high temperatures and heat index to continue Thursday.

Throughout most of the day, the forecast calls for temperatures in the 90s with a heat index between 100 to 104 F. The heat index factors humidity into what the temperature feels like.

In the late afternoon thunderstorms are expected, and Butler County is in a region marked for an enhanced risk for damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes, according to the service’s severe weather outlook.

The service describes “enhanced risk” as having a medium to high level of confidence that these elements will appear during the storms.

According to the service’s forecast, the day will be hot, clear and sunny until about 4 p.m., when showers and thunderstorms are likely until about 8 p.m.
