A Slippery Rock Township man was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital Monday night after he was caught beneath the tires of a tri-axle truck, firefighters said.

Around 6:41 p.m., Butler County 911 dispatched fire and EMS units to the 100 block of Wick Road. A caller reported a man was trapped under a large truck.

Firefighters who were at the scene said the man had been working on a tri-axle dump truck, and it rolled onto him trapping his lower body beneath the tires. Firefighters said the brakes may have slipped causing the truck to move.

Firefighters said before they arrived a neighbor had freed the man by moving the truck.

According to firefighters, the man was in stable condition, but the injuries still needed a high level of care, so emergency crews moved forward with a medical helicopter which landed in a nearby field.

The helicopter flew the man to Allegheny General Hospital for further treatment.

Rescue crews were active for about 40 minutes. Slippery Rock and Unionville fire departments, as well as Slippery Rock EMS assisted with the call.
