Mars Brew Fest has most successful year yet
MARS — The Mars Brew Fest, held Saturday, brought in a gross total of $35,165, according to Mayor Gregg Hartung.
“It’s the largest brew fest we’ve had so far. The weather was probably the best thing,” Hartung told borough council Monday night. “It turned out really good.”
Hartung estimated that after paying for expenses, the festival would be able to put aside between $29,000 and $30,000 toward next year’s Mars New Year celebration.
Between 1,100 and 1,200 people attended the event. Roughly $33,000 out of the gross total sales came from ticket sales, Hartung said.
“This is the seventh year, and it’s working out really well,” Hartung said. “People seem to enjoy themselves.”
Public works foreman Ed Dorsey asked the council to consider purchasing movable picnic tables that would be used specifically for events in the future.
At the moment, for events, the borough typically moves picnic tables from the park and other locations around the town, which take extra time to move, he said.
“As it sits right now, we took all the picnic tables out of all the parks,” Dorsey said. “We were down there and had a beautiful weekend (at the Brew Fest), and if people went to the parks, they had no picnic tables.”
Dorsey said that new picnic tables would likely be around $180 to $200 apiece. He suggested the picnic tables be something that is easily folded up or moved by one person at a time for efficiency.
Council member Julie Schultheis said that she would look into options for smaller, foldable picnic tables.
