Totalus LLC, a new local cafe that opened on June 4 on East Jefferson Street, aims to offer a space for not just fresh baked goods and smoothies, but local artisan craftmakers.

"All of our ingredients are local and the whole lobby is full with local crafts,“ Owner Kayla Fleming said.

The name Totalus comes from the Harry Potter book series, which is based on the freezing spell.

Fleming worked as a social worker in Butler for the past five years before opening Totalus and was pleased with the initial reaction from the community when it opened.

"I just felt there was a need for more businesses to be a community friendly space," Fleming said. "I feel I can do more for my community now than I could in a nonprofit."

Totalus has boba teas, regular teas and real fruit smoothies, Fleming explained. It has a wide variety of baked goods like cinnamon roles and hand-dipped chocolates, which have proven to be a big seller.

"If I did not have the support from my family and my husband, I don't think I would have been able to pull through," Fleming said.

Totalus is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, but open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays.
